Exciting 16 day tour through Chile, Peru and Bolivia

This is a perfect introduction to the Andean heartland of South America! Northern Chile, Peru and Bolivia are all included in this exciting 16 day motorcycle adventure! Let’s start in Chile with the Atacama Desert, the dramatic coastal riding along the Pacific Ocean and the tiny pueblo of San Pedro de Atacama, famous for the Valley of the Moon. Here, the skies are so clear and the stars so bright that huge observatories are stationed close by. Peru is the highlight of any tour in the Andes and it’s is famed for its charming colonial highland towns, soaring snow-capped mountains and, of course, Machu Picchu, where a days visit to the famous Inca citadel is included on our itinerary, of course!

But no Andean adventure would be complete without also riding high to the second largest mountain plateau in the world, in Bolivia, where we visit the de facto capital, La Paz, take our bikes on barges across Lake Titicaca and you’ll have the option to try out the “Road of Death” too. Watch out for the alpaca and llamas, flamingo and condors, as we wind our way on our way through the mountains on this spectacular South American motorcycle tour!

This route is primarily a paved road route, with optional dirt/gravel tracks (including the option of riding the “Road of Death” in Bolivia) and an 80 miles stretch of good graded gravel roads between Chivay and Cusco. The tour is mainly on twisting mountain roads and across the high altitude Altiplano. Generally road conditions are good and once out of town, roads are traffic free. You do need to watch out for slow moving trucks in blind bends and skittish wildlife. The larger cities of La Paz, Cusco and Arequipa are busy and a little chaotic. You will be riding at altitude, including some passes over 4,500m high and some nights are at altitudes of 3,300 – 3,800m. This tour is suitable for a good road rider, preferably with previous experience of touring. It is also suitable for experienced two-up couples.

If you do not want to ship your bike there we can organise your motorcycle rental with our approved local rental agency, in accordance with your selection. Your rental includes your motorcycle, equipped with side panniers. Further accessories are available at an additional charge. Your rental covers unlimited mileage and the insurance is third party liability (this means that damage to the motorcycle is not insured). You are able to purchase additional insurance to limit your maximum damage payment (provided you have complied with the terms and conditions of hire).

On arrival, you are required to sign the local rental agency terms and conditions of hire – please request these, if you require sight in advance. You will also have to leave a credit card as a guarantee against damages. We advise you to check your rental motorcycle carefully and to take photographs of any pre-existing damage when you collect it.

Please note that on rare occasions we may need to substitute you choice of motorcycle for something similar.
