This tour starts with an overnight stay in Dumfries
From here we take a route through the Galloway Forest Park and up the coast to the Clyde ferry from Gourock to Dunoon, then onward via Loch Fyne to enchanting Kilchrenan situated right on the bank of Loch Awe, where you will have a lovely dinner. Our partner hotel in Kilchrenan is currently classified as a 3* hotel but following refurishment has applied for 4* status and is awaiting confrmation from the Scottish Tourist Board. From here we will have an optional ride-out up the west coast, stopping near Glenfinnan for lunch before returning to Loch Awe and another great dinner. Or just relax and drink in the hotel's surroundings.
After our second night on the banks of Loch Awe we head north on a route that can pause for lunch at the Green Welly followed by a fabulous ride across the Great Glen to Fort Augustus. Here we stay at one of our favourite hotels. at this 4* hotel standard room type accommodation is included in the tour cost but room upgrades are available. This acts as our base for optional ride-outs to the magnificent Isle of Skye, a loop north then west around the coast that includes Bealach na Ba pass over Applecross, and lastly a ride up to Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle to Culloden Field, the site of the final battle of the Jacobite Rising and last and most harrowing ptiched battle to be fought on British soil.
Special note for solo riders: the single supplement at our 4* partner hotel in Fort Augustus is quite high so we have less expensive alternatives for you. Please ask for details.
Returning to Dumfries via Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park where you will have a final night at the hotel, and head home the follwing day.
About 1200 miles in total, giving an average daily mileage of 170 miles. The west coast and highlands of Scotland are wonderfully scenic, and the roads are entertaining and quiet. This tour gives you the opportunity to ride what are possibly the best roads in the UK, and to drink in the splendour and culture of this beautiful part of the UK.
