We can offer this tour from March to the end of October each year. However we would recommend avoiding early and late season travel as it can be cold and wet. The Douro Valley is a better option in very low season.
Over the years Portugal has been one of our top selling motorcycling destinations. Good accommodation, local food, a mild climate and a surprising array of great roads to ride make it popular destination for most of the year! There are budget airlines operating to Porto from most UK airports so it's ideal as a fly ride destination - whether for a short weekend break or for a longer tour.
The Serra da Peneda-Geres is located in the Minho region of Northern Portugal and is easily accessible from Porto. The national park is a continuation of the Cantabrian range and this UNESCO designated World Biosphere Reserve is home to the second highest peak in Portgual. The countryside is green, verdant with hills plunging down to deep rivers and offers super riding opportunities whether you want a leisurely ride out and some sightseeing on the way or a full day of scenic riding.
Day 1 Take an early flight from your local airport. Make your way to our local motorcycle company located in Porto centre and after some paperwork you can set off on your travels. Spare luggage can be left with the bike hire company for storage at the depot. To save time your bike can be delivered to the airport for a small fee. The ride to the gorgeous Serra da Peneda-Geres is not a long one and you can either head straight there or stop off in Braga or Guimaraes. As an alternative if you have a later flight we an arrange an additional night in Porto near the bike hire depot so that you can enjoy a full day of riding.
We are offering a choice of two hotels, both of them Portuguese Pousadas. Originally derived from the Portuguese word for 'rest' (pousar), the term 'Pousada' has become synonymous with luxury hotel accommodation in beautifully restored historical buildings in Portugal. The Pousadas of Portugal Group is an exclusive chain of 34 historical hotels many of which are considered to be amongst the top hotels in Portugal and are the very embodiment of the best that Portugal has to offer.
Many Pousada hotels were formerly monasteries, palaces, convents and castles and have been beautifully converted to offer luxurious, elegant hotel accommodation, often in superb locations. These unique hotels are located throughout mainland Portugal and the Azores in either historical cities or in rural areas of outstanding national beauty or interests such as Geres National Park.
Pousada de Geres-Canicada - Charming Hotel - Situated on a mountain in the Peneda-Geres National Park this Pousada has a beautifully furnished lounge with stone fireplace and wooden beams which make the Hotel Sao Bento one of the most welcoming Pousadas in Portugal. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, terrace, restaurant and bar.
