We have been many times to Slovenia and Croatia and have always enjoyed the motorcycle ride along the Dalmatian coastline. We know from previous experience that Dubrovnik is always a little too far from Opatija where we have stayed in the past - so this itinerary will give you more time to get to your destination!
After two overnight stops in Saarbrucken and Augsburg (Germany) we ride our motorbikes on an interesting route to Bled in Slovenia. The planned ride out to Postojna Caves through the stunning national park is always popular or you may wish to stay local and enjoy the resort facilities during our two night stay or have a short ride out around Lake Bled.
Onwards for SIX DAYS in Croatia giving you plenty of time to explore and ride some fabulous coastal roads. As we leave Slovenia behind we cross the border into Croatia to enjoy a 4* overnight stay right on the coast, just north of the medieval city of Zadar known for its Roman ruins.
We continue riding our motorcycles futher south along the coast to the "pearl of the Adriatic", Dubrovnik. Our 4* hotel will provide a coastal base to explore the area, and ff couse, not to be missed is Dubrovnik itself. This UNESCO World Heritage site basks in a warm mediterranean climate and is adorned with ancient buildings and beautiful streets and historic houses topped by terracotta tiles. At night the old town comes alive so enjoy the cafe culture and mediterranean food or maybe take a guided tour and learn something of the history of this beautiful city.
If you want to venture even further afield then the rides out that we have planned for you will take you into neighbouring Montenegro or you may wish to explore the many beaches and coves that are readily accessible from our delightful resort Hotel. After three nights there we turn our motorcycles inland to Mostar in Bosnia, to visit the famous bridge where local lads collect money from tourists before jumping, diving and performing somersaults into the clear blue waters below!
Back on our motorcycles, we continue our coastal ride to the delightful harbour town of Split for an overnight night stay, giving you the opportunity to wander through the medieval streets of this fortified town that has an area known as the Diocletian’s Palace - one of the most imposing Roman ruins in existence. This is not a palace or a museum but is the city's living heart, its labyrinthine streets packed with people, bars, shops and restaurants on quite a scale - you will be impressed. Feedback from previous tours has said that it would be nice to relax today so we have chosen a nice 4* hotel with a pool and wellness area for those who want to chill. That same evening we join the overnight sailing from Split to Ancona with cabin included in the price of the tour.
The next day, upon arrival in Italy we ride our motorbikes through delightful Chianti villages to stay for two nights in a picturesque spa town of Monticatini Terme, only a short ride from Pisa and Lucca with options to visit the famous Piazza del Campo in Siena. There is also the fascinating museum at Vinci that contains amazing works by Leonardo da Vinci, whose birthplace is but a short ride away through the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
For your return route we have again listened to customer feedback and have added an extra night to make the return more leisurely. So our first overnight on the way home will be in the beautfiul French town of Grasse at one of our regular hotels which boasts an outdoor swimming pool. We will then head on to Chambery for a further overnight stay before our last night in Troyes. An enjoyable ride home!
