NOW SOLD OUT

Fancy a few days abroad somewhere different? Come with us to a part of Germany which is readily accessible from the UK, and has the most extraordinary local architecture and culture. Our first base for this holiday is three nights at a family run hotel right on the banks of the Obersee, the dammed part of the Ruhr near Simmerath right in the Eifel National Park.

The Eifel National Park is a fantastic playground for motorcycling, with spectacular vistas, and wonderful roads. Our ride-outs will include the medieval town of Monschau, the ‘Vogelsang’ which was used by the Nazi Party between 1936 and 1939 as an educational centre for future leaders, as well as the 1944 Hürtgenwald Museum, which tells the story one of of the costliest battles the US forces fought in Europe.

From here we head to a further three nights in a quaint little town on the banks of the Mosel river. Here we will have the option of a day off the bike, with a wine tasting at a local winery, and a scenic river cruise.

Or perhaps you want to scream off to the Nurburgring at a legal 150+mph along the Autobahn…or perhaps you will prefer to savour the gorgeous scenery as you ride past vineyards and castles on both sides of the Mosel in this truly beautiful part of Germany.

The next day we will see half-timbered buildings in abundance and our ride out to Bernkastel on the Mosel really is a picture postcard destination. The ride there through forests and valleys is a visual feast and the town itself is a real step back in time. Park your bike by the river and go for a wander through the delightful narrow streets. Sometimes a brass band or oompah band will be playing in the town square, so grab a bite to eat and settle back into an unhurried lifestyle that time seems to have  forgotten.

The next day we will ride-out cross country to Burg Eltz to see a castle that is still owned and occupied by the same family for the last 500 years - the setting in a remote valley made the castle impregnable so its period features remain intact. If you are into historical artefacts, then the Treasure Room and Armoury make an interesting afternoon diversion. On the way back call in at Cochem - a very popular local biking haunt that often has a vast array of bikes on display. The ride back to the hotel alongside the river is particularly rewarding, meandering along the riverbank with vast vineyards as a backdrop - you can see why the local bikers love it!

Our return journey takes a twisty route through Luxembourg and southern Belgium to our last characterful hotel at Sedan in France, carrying on the next day via the Ardennes National Park and Avesnois Regional National Park and Scarpe-Escaut Regional Nature Park to Calais, and the ferry to Blighty. Great riding, great food, great wine, and step back in time in this little corner of Germany.
