Few landscapes have a reputation to match that of the Canadian Rockies. No less than FOUR National Parks and three Provincial Parks are contained within the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. This area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To quote the UNESCO declaration, “With rugged mountain peaks, icefields and glaciers, alpine meadows, lakes, waterfalls, extensive karst cave systems and deeply incised canyons, the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks possess exceptional natural beauty.” To put this declaration in perspective, some other UNESCO sites selected for exceptional natural beauty include the Jungfrau in the Swiss Alps, the Dolomites in Italy, the U.S. National Parks of Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. Our tour will go through the heart of this beautiful region and will visit all four National Parks - Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Kootenay.
Our motorbike tour starts in Seattle, and as we near Canada, we will ride the Chuckanut Drive. This famous motorcycle road weaves and hugs the shoreline overlooking the beautiful San Juan Islands, jewels in Washington State’s vast Puget Sound.
Next we ride our motorbikes across the border into Canada and across some of the best parts of British Columbia. View the rugged Fraser River Canyon from the road as it climbs, swoops and clings to the side of the canyon, offering great views over the river and mountains above as we motorcycle onwards towards the Trans Canada Highway taking us deeper into British Columbia. We ride the Meadows in the Sky Parkway to the top of Mount Revelstoke National Park for outstanding views of the mighty Columbia River and the ice-clad peaks of the Monashee Mountains. The Selkirk Mountains and Glacier National Park, home of 400 glaciers, will astound you as we traverse its historic Roger’s Pass.
Into the Rockies, the Ice Fields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper is one of the world’s ultimate motorcycle experiences. For 143 miles we will ride this magnificent highway passing the snow capped peaks of the Rockies, mighty waterfalls, turquoise lakes and immense ice fields. Enjoy a rest day exploring Banff and the most famous lake in the Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise. We ride across Kicking Horse Pass at 5339 feet to enter Yoho National Park which contains some of the most varied and sublime scenery in North America. Kootenay National Park is the least visited of the Rockies parks but its mountain landscapes are as mesmerizing as any in Canada.
Departing the Rockies we ride the best motorcycle road in British Columbia on our way to the historic and charming town of Nelson. Then we take the Crows Nest Highway along Southern British Columbia and descend down into Washington State, USA, to the old west town of Winthrop. We head back to Seattle over the North Cascades Highway, absolutely the best motorcycle road in Washington. (Rod can tell you that because he lives there!)
The tour starts and ends in Seattle, Washington, USA, appropriately dubbed the Emerald City. Come early or stay after the motorcycle tour and explore this remarkable city that is watched over by the majestic 14,000 foot volcano, Mount Rainier. Have dinner in the rotating restaurant at the top of the Space Needle or dazzle at the huge salmon flying across the counters at the famous Pike’s Street Market. If you have extra time, take the ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island and have a proper British Afternoon Tea at the elegant Empress Hotel.
This is the opportunity of a lifetime to visit one of the most spectacular areas of the Canadian Rockies. All accommodation has been carefully selected, all rooms will be en-suite and most hotels/motels have swimming pools and hot tubs. Your MCi Tour guides have years of experience organising motorcycle tours. They will be with you throughout the tour to offer you the benefit of their advice.
