26th Moto Piston Rally and Picos de Europa
Classic bikes in a glorious location celebrating the festival of 5000 curves!
Enjoy a two centre holiday staying first of all actually in the Picos followed by a four star hotel in Santander where the Moto Piston event takes place. This popular event boasts an active programme over the whole week from 23 September to Sunday 29 September 2013. Ideal for whether you want to throw yourself fully into the event or just soak up the atmosphere! Make the most of it!
Your SelfGuided Tour departs on 22 September and includes Brittany Ferries sailing, cabin and SEVEN nights in northern Spain - four of which are in our favourite 3* hotel in the Picos and three at a superbly located 4* hotel in Santander which overlooks the beach and is close to all the action. Enjoy the atmosphere and the ride outs!
If you love riding your motorbike in fantastic scenery then the Picos in Spain is definitely for you. The whole area is a natural park and a landscape that belongs to earlier times.
Every day a challenging motorcycling route in Spain where even the same roads can take on a different perspective at different times of the day. You will enjoy your motorcycle ride to Comillas on the northern coastline where you can check out the bizarre Gaudi architecture in the grounds of a wacky 1880s gothic castle. Just down the road is Santillana del Mar – one of the best-preserved medieval villages in the whole of Spain. And around the corner is Altamira, famous for the discovery in 1946 of cave paintings thousands of years old. Make sure you ride your motorcycle to go visit the caves – they really are extraordinary. Or ride your motorbike further along the coastal route to the marvellous Guggenheim museum at Bilbao. Yet another motorcycle ride out will take you up to Covadonga where the twin spired blood red cathedral dominates the skyline. Onwards to Cangas de Onis famous for its huge Roman arch and marvel at the noblemen’s palaces nearby. Or just ride your motorbike and stop off at the many Miradors (viewpoints) along the route. Another popular ride out is to the capital of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo. But most importantly are the rideouts in the Picos themselves including Fuente De where a ride on the cablecar is a must. Just be sure to take a big memory card and spare batteries for your digital camera!
After time in the mountains it's down to the coast to our 4* centrally located hotel. Ideally situated near the beach it's a super spot to discover Santander and the rally.
Click HERE for details of the Rally. Please note that the rally is not included in our tour. Note that participation in the event is limited to classic bikes that must be prebooked with the organsiers. Nothing to stop you going on your own modern bike and having a look - you will be amazed by the variety of bikes from all over Europe!
